A number of people have sent this link to me today. It's an article written by San Francisco Chronicle Staff Writer W. Blake Gray. In it, he provides his list of favorite wines under $10. Articles like this are constantly surfacing on the internet, but this one is a little different.
W. Blake's article is called "Bargain All- Stars." In a fun way, he contrasts the world of budget wines with the world of baseball. The timing of the article is of course not coincidental, as the baseball all-star game is in San Francisco this upcoming Tuesday. It's a great read, and if you like baseball, you'll enjoy it that much more. Again, the link is:

It's so surprising that no Zin are listed in this article! For an event about a American (only) sport, I would expect an American only wine: the Zinfandel. By the way, I don't remember seeing any wine on sale at the AT&T Ball Park and I thought that beer was the official drink?!

I love wine (I am getting married in a vineyard this October)...
I love beer (I am a human male between the ages of 0-125)...
I LOVE baseball (I am originally from Boston)...
When I go to a baseball game I want to drink beer (if its a day game, I should probably drink some water too). Baseball is the national pastime (even if Football is more popular) and I think, on average, that the people in this country would rather bond over their team and a nice cold glass of brew, rather than a nice glass of Zin. So I can understand why stadiums would steer towards beer (except in the really expensive seats I am sure you could get a glass of wine).
However, with all that being said, this was a great read. Anytime someone writes about baseball and alcohol I am pretty much in till the end of the article.
I still find it fascinating that Merlot outranks Cab in popularity. Most people I know prefer Cab over Merlot (except myself because I prefer Sangiovese over both of them).
Good find and thanks for linking to this article!
